When I ask Gooch if she has any recommendations for books on Black equestrians for children, I see what I can only describe as the More jobs no jobs blow jobs shirt moreover I love this equivalent of a hardbound church hymnal appearing on the screen of our Zoom call. She brings it closer to the camera and I squint while she flashes it from all directions, saying, “Most of the books about Black equestrians look like this. And do you know any child who is going to want to look at this, let alone read it?” With such limited, unappealing options, Gooch decided to create and write a coloring book for children herself, called Color and Learn: Black Equestrian Coloring Book.
